DURING the 18th MACI (Indonesia Moto Antique) in Magelang, from June 25 to June 26, an estimated 2.000 antique Motorbikes were on display to the tune of punk, rock and reggae music. Furthermore, the event was spiced up by the strong aroma of “ciu” (a locally produced liquor) and equally as intoxicating dancers.

The owners of motorbikes produced in 1940s to 1970s mostly hailed from the provinces of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan (Samarinda and Balikpapan Cities), Bali and Lampung and various regions on the Java Island. Among their bikes, BSA, AJS, DKW, Ariel and many more.
“You call yourself a rich unless you own your own antique bike! MACI, Yes! Viva MACI! ” the biker’s chants could be heard from the elevated stage from the east side parking area of Tribakti Public Building on Jalan Sudirman Magelang.
Wariok Amak, MACI Chairman reminded the antique motorbike owner’s to carry their vehicle documents at all times and uphold the maintenance of their bikes.
Adjunct Senior Commissioner Guritno Wibowo, Police Chief of Magelang Municipality, said, a lot of these antique motorcycles are much older than their owners. “That’s why MACI should be extra careful whenever they ride it.”
Joko Prasetyo, Deputy Mayor of Magelang, acknowledged, the 18th MACI Jamboree in Magelang will raise the awareness for the municipality.
These official figures in the audience, did not cause the atmosphere of the opening of the 18th MACI Jamboree on Saturday to become overly formal.
“You know, Guritno Wibowo is Wulan Guritno’s brother,” said Gepeng, one of hosts. Wulan Guritno is an Indonesian actress.
However, Guritno Wibowo and Wulan Guritno only share the same surname and have no direct family ties. Gepeng continued with his joke, “Guritno Wibowo was also a biker. But now he is a speaker.” Gepeng has been known as a stage host of musical events in Yogyakarta since the late 1990s.
The 18th MACI Jamboree officially opened with the roar of a motorcycle parked in front of the stage. Guritno Wibowo, Joko Prasetyo and other figures then walked around the jamboree area.
On stage, entertainers appear in turn. They are sexy dancers feat DJ Dee, Prison of Blues Band, Starlight Band with classic rock songs, and Marapu, reggae band group from Yogyakarta.
A small fight broke out in front of stage during Starlight show. Starlight to sing Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” to reduce this incidence.
But again, the noise happened on stage when Marapu ready to sing. A long-haired tattooed man was drunk, and he seems unable to control his behavior. He talked much through a loudspeaker. But it was not became serious chaotic.
Marapu is consisting of Yanto, Dondho, Dyan et al, to present songs of Bob Marley, the late Mbah Surip (Indonesian reggae singer) and many others.
Beside all over the MACI members in Indonesia, the 18 MACI Jamboree in Magelang Municipality was also attended by another motorcycle club: HMT (Old Motorbike Association) Bali, BOM-Antique Bojonegoro, Pirates of Yogyakarta, Brotherhood, Tiger Aceh, Red Eyes from Malang, etc.
Eight members of the HDCI ( Indonesia Harley Davidson Club) was also came here. “Thank you HDCI. You must stop your bike when the traffic light steady red. Do not go until the light is green,” said Gepeng, when members of HDCI prepare to leave.
Glen, an old gentleman from Australia who are also a fan of antique motorcycle, coming into this event. Again, Gepeng the stage host was kidding Glen, as he does not speak Bahasa Indonesia. “Look, this olg guy seems very like to drink ciu,” Gepeng says. In fact, Glen seemed really drunk.
