Remembering Magelang’s Past: from Classic Cars to Old Photographs

FOR THE umpteenth time Magelang Municipality to hold a historical exhibition “Magelang Tempo Doeloe” in Alun-alun public square. The exhibition opened by the Mayor of Magelang Sigit Widyonindito, Wednesday (May 13, 2015) evening.

“Magelang Tempo Doeloe” will run through Sunday, May 17. As in previous years, admission is free for visitors and the event will be held rain or shine.

Besides many objects of historical importance, “Magelang Tempo Doeloe” also displays 40 classic cars, 20 vintage bikes, 20 antique motorcycles, and 300 old photographs.

Indonesia, of course including Magelang, experienced a long colonial era under Dutch rule. It is no wonder that a variety of historic elements such as architectural works, paintings, newspapers, jewelries, and clothes are greatly influenced by Dutch, and all these can be seen in the exhibition.

More than 200 stands and booth are participating in the exhibition. “Magelang Tempo Doeloe” is held to celebrate the 1,109th anniversary of Magelang Municipality.***[alwaysmagelang@gmail.com]
