MAGELANG (Municipality) is only a relatively small city. With a population of less than 130,000 distributed over a land area of just 18.12 square kilometers, making it one of Indonesia’s smallest cities.
However, living in a small city doesn’t always mean living in the dark and lonely place. The fact is, Magelang in recent months has hosted a number of events: sports, entertainment and arts.
In the month of June alone, there will be several sports events, both local or provincial and national scales:
- BRIght Night Cycling Festival — Sunday, June 6, 2015. The start and finish locations: Rindam‘s (Regiment Military Area) football pitch.
4,500 participants expected at this event. Total cash prizes: IDR 25 million, plus 5 motorcycles, 10 Polygon bicycles, and a variety of electronic products.
- Magelang Open Table Tennis Championship 2015 — Saturday-Sunday, June 13-14 at Military Academy’s Suroto sports hall.
Total prize money on this national scale event will reach IDR 100 million. Organizers expected to draw more than 700 participants.
- 8th Magelang’s Mayor Cup Tennis Tournament — Sunday-Wednesday, June 14-17, 2015.
Tennis matches will be played only in women’s and men’s teams categories on 3 different courts in Magelang Municipality. Total prize money: IDR 30 million.
- Borobudur Wushu Championship 2015 — Saturday-Wednesday, June 13-17 at Tri Bhakti sports hall.
The championship will be divided into several age groups (junior and senior) Taolu: boys 16-18, girls 16-18, boys 13-15, girls 13-15, boys 10-12, girls 10-12, division of 9 years or under, and senior Taolu.
- Gowes HUT ke-5 Magelang Ekspres — Sunday, June 14, 2015.
It is a fun cycling event organized by Magelang Ekspres Daily News to mark its 5 year anniversary. The Start/Finish and event area will be located at Alun-alun public square.
Magelang Ekspres and sponsors provide grand prize a new car, and prizes including 5 motorbikes, 5 mountain bikes, cell phones, televisions, and also several different types of electronic products.
- Ton Tangkas TNI AD 2015 — Tuesday-Monday, June 9-15.
Ton Tangkas or Peleton Tangkas (literally means agile, spirited platoon) is Indonesia’s Army (TNI AD) sports games.
The Army has listed several military sports including shooting sports, combat/military swim, Yong Moo Do (self-defense system developed for the military in Indonesia) and other sports that will be contested in this year’s Ton Tangkas.
Assessment will also carried out on navigation skills, physical and mental endurance, field craft and field engineering skills, the ability to live-in-the-field and survival skills, teamwork abilities, initiative and leadership.
Hundreds of soldiers and military officers from 13 (Provincial) Military Commands or Kodam and 2 Infantry Divisions (Divif) from all over Indonesia will take part in the games.
Ton Tangkas TNI AD 2015 will be conducted at the Military Academy sports complex in Magelang Municipality; Military Academy’s “Sarsato” outdoor shooting range in Plempungan of Ngadirejo Village, Salaman Subdistrict, Magelang Regency; and also Rindam‘s football pitch.***[firstname.lastname@example.org]
