THE Central Statistic Agency (BPS) census of 2010 recorded 32,380,687 people in the Province of Central Java, making it the third most populous provinces in Indonesia, behind West Java (43,021,826 people) and East Java (37,476,011 people).
Central Java encompasses a land area of 34,548,20 square kilometers, giving it a population density of about 930 people per square kilometers or 2,400 per square mile.
There are six municipalities and 29 regencies in Central Java. Semarang City is the province’s capital.***
